Overall, I think the A6 is an underappreciated value. If I decide to keep the vehicle for a few more years, I would probably replace the suspension to keep the A6 riding comfortable and firm. It is still riding on the original suspension components.
I am now at the point where I need to evaluate how much additional investment to put into the vehicle. I never expected to keep the A6 as long as we have. I now just reset the indicator when the light comes on. Several independent mechanics have also looked at it, but the problem has never been fully resolved. The dealer performed a number of repairs under warranty, but the condition always came back. The warning light comes on every month or so indicating an intermittent loss of connection with the sensor. There has been an issue with the air bag warning light for the passenger side air bag that has never been resolved. Otherwise, there have not been any major repairs needed. The 3.2 V6 has been known to be plagued with this issue. Recently, I did have to do a carbon cleaning when the engine began to run a little rough. Between oil changes, I have very rarely had to add additional oil. The 500 mile drive each way has always been fun, comfortable, and stress free. It has probably made at least 15 trips down and back from Atlanta to New Orleans. The 3.2 V6 provides plenty of power and gets close to 29 MPG on the highway. The A6 provides a solid ride yet handles well for a larger vehicle. My 5'10" daughter has never complained about leg room in the rear like she did in my A4. The front seats are comfortable and very supportive. We have had the A6 Quattro now for 10+ years. But, if I could, I would.either increase public school salary, or purchase/lease an Audi for the family! How about a Public Employee discount with verification? As a public school teacher, it's very difficult to purchase a new Audi on my salary. Audi makes a name for itself and keeps authenticity, performance, and service in the name. The Audi A6 design brings comfort, safety, and high quality to travel. But, the performance of this vehicle, even 12 years old is as good as new for long road trips-I think outperforming the listed and anticipated MPG for this model and year. But, comparing the new and the old models, both are awesome vehicles with lots of 'gitty up' when cared for! In fact, I actually save money by traveling a little faster on the highways for MPG.(Highway Patrol and Insurance, please ignore). I expect to put some moolah into the care when needed. But, otherwise, when warmed up, vroom! Yes. The winter at high altitude in extreme cold is a little unfriendly to an early morning start. The car is exactly what it is: a sweet ride in an older model. I got a little more than I paid for a couple of years ago. But, I can attest to the benefits of purchasing a used Audi. If repairs are needed, they better be done-if not, it's more expensive. You know what you get with inspection, service, and Audi control.
